 ABREAST IN AUSTRALIA

In September 2007, 12 of our team members competed at Caloundra Queensland in the Australian International Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Regatta.  Ten other breast cancer survivors from Campbell River, Powell River and Prince Rupert helped to make up our team that was amoung 23 from Canada. There were 73 teams from all over the world including USA, Italy, Hong Kong, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. The Australians were wonderful hosts and put on a well organized Regatta. We all met new friends, greeted old ones and had a great time.

see Photo Gallery for more pictures soon.

Tap-Ins Fun

Well, 22 people showed up for our Tap-Ins fun event! The weather held, with only 2 small bouts of light rain through the morning. The sun even peeked through a few times!

Closest to the pin Men, was won by Rick Skwarok, and closest to the pin Women, was won by Marlene Nash. Congratulations!

Almost everyone headed over to Legends for lunch afterwards, and hopefully enjoyed a well deserved lunch. (i got called away..boohoo)

We could definitely make this into a yearly event.

  Relay for Life - June 16, 2007

The Survivor Lap of the Chilliwack Relay for life was well represented by our team members and some suppporters.  The event, as always, is an emotional walk, both to remember those who have lost the battle and to celebrate that we are able to be there to support the cause.

Several of our team attended the Abbotsford Relay June 22 as well.

CIBC Run for the Cure
October 1, 2006

Spirit Abreast put together a 26-member team under the Family and Friends category and we were able to raise approximately $5,000 in donations. Our team was invited up on stage to promote awareness. Taryn, one of our support paddlers, spoke first about the team and what it means to her, then each member introduced herself and told why she had joined the team and what she got out of it. We then went on to inspire the other participants with our pre-dragon race team cheer. Following the run, we had our usual lunch at Boston Pizza to unwind. This was a great effort and very well done by all.

Here we are with the mayor of Abbotsford, the Honourable George Ferguson.

Taryn spoke first about the team and each team member spoke after that.

Duke's Pub Fundraiser

September 9, 2006

In September, the team pushed into fundraising gear by holding a Pub Night at Dukes Pub in Greendale. The location was ideal as Greendale is the halfway point between the two communities of Abbotsford and Chilliwack. With family and friends in attendance, food and drink were enjoyed by all. Not only that, but a 50/50 draw and raffle brought in impressive revenues, as did a fun Twoonie Toss. We also hosted a Silent Auction with several donated items and many generous bids. Thanks to everyone who attended and helped to make the night such a success!
